Battling The Insurance Company Over My Coccygectomy

Battling The Insurance Company Over My Coccygectomy

I was notified by my insurance company that they have denied the claim for my two-day hospital stay following my coccygectomy (tailbone removal) because they considered the stay to be ‘medically unnecessary’ . The pain after the surgery was so intense that I received I.V. pain medication including morphine and dilaudid. They even denied the anesthesiologist’s claim. I suppose the insurance company thinks I should have had the surgery while I was awake.

My recovery has gone so well, and my spirits have been high – but this blow does nothing to make my recovery any smoother.

I have appeal the decision with my insurance company, and I’ll be sure to give an update once this is resolved.

I work for a big insurance company. I.understand your frustration BC while I’ve been off I’ve had nothing but problems with them. They have caused nothing but more stress and depression on top of the rest of my recovery. I had to hire an attorney! Sad. They even treat their own employees not nice. Did u hear back from appeal?

They are still denying my claim. They have denied my hospital stay and the anesthesiologists. They only paid the surgeon, which the most expensive. I’m on my third appeal now. I had to have I. V. morphine to control my pain. I don’t know why they think I could have administered this myself at home. Unreal.

U might want to contact an attorney. I’ve learned thru calling one that if u need to file court against them they will not allow anything else to b submitted for the case once appeals r complete! Insurance will try to trick u saying under Erisa u have to exhaust all internal process before u can file anything against them which is true but also misleading. My advice contact one n area. Most will not get paid unless they win. Its all tricky.
